Strengthening "Pangari Culture" in Preventing Environmental Damage by the Existence of Bauxite Mining in Tayan Hilir Subdistrict, Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan
The government of Sanggau Regency has given permission to nineteen bauxite mining company with a total area about 245,000 hectares in Tayan Hilir subdistrict. Mining operations not only give foreign state but also raise the issue of natural and social environmental damage. The research purpose was to create a model of social reconstruction in the form of strengthening “Pangari Culture” to prevent natural and social environtmental damage as well as to strengthen the community’s economy. Pangari Culture as a social capital has values of mutual cooperation and social solidarity. This research used descriptive methods. The data was collected using purposive techniques, i.e. informan of the company and the citizens affected by the presence of mines. Then, the data was analyzed using qualitative analysis to analyze the forms of social reconstruction through Pangari Culture in the district. The result explained that the social order of Pangari Culture has been becoming lost since the presence of the mining company because people lose land as livelihood and marginalize in their own territory.
